Tips for Parents

  1. Avoid punishment or scolding regarding gymnastics progress.
  2. Avoid transferring fear. Alert her to dangers without frightening her. Do not discuss problems in front of students.
  3. Leave the coaching to us. Please do not talk to your child or instructor during class or interrupt her training in any way. If you have questions or suggestions, see the Head Coach after the lesson.
  4. Let her work out at home. Do not push for progress. One lesson a day is enough. Let your child show you what she is learning. Don't experiment! Remember that flattery gets you everywhere with young children, if it is sincere and deserved.
  5. Respect her attitudes and concerns if she is afraid. She knows her current limitations. If she cries for a few lessons with us, it is because she is concerned about her lack of ability to keep up with other girls. Crying only tells us the child is concerned and we must earn her confidence and set her at ease.
  6. Please ask us about your child's progress and development. We are as interested in personal development as in the gymnastic skills. We want to know if something is troubling you or your child. Seemingly small things can upset a child. If we know about these things, we can often help your child over a real hurdle in her personal growth.
